Drop this right after the first one as “Part 2.”* --- ### *Isaiah 21:8 Part 2: YHWH on the Wall When Babylon Fell* *Why “I WILL BE the Watchman” Changes the Whole Oracle* In Part 1 I showed you the triple erasure: *אהיה* became “lion,” *צפה* became “watchtower,” *יהוה* became “Lord.” But context is king. So here’s the question: *Who’s actually watching Babylon fall in Isaiah 21?* *The MT Answer:* _“And he cried, *A lion*: On the watchtower, my Lord, I stand… *Babylon is fallen, is fallen!*”_ A lion tells “the Lord” about Babylon. Maybe it’s Isaiah. Maybe it’s metaphor. Maybe it’s a real lion. Nobody knows. The agency is gone. YHWH is off-stage. *The Restored Answer:* _“And He cried: *I WILL BE the watchman, I, Yehowah* will stand continually… *Babylon is fallen, is fallen!*”_ *Suddenly it’s clear. YHWH Himself announces Babylon’s fall from His own watch.* ### *Run the Chapter — It All Lines Up* *Isa 21:1-2* — _“Elam, besiege! Media, lay siege!”_ The prophecy: Persia will take Babylon. *Isa 21:5* — _“Set the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink”_ — Babylon is partying. Daniel 5 confirms it. Belshazzar’s feast, night of the fall. *Isa 21:6* — _“For thus has *Adonai* said to me: Go, set a watchman”_ — MT again. Bullinger #72 of 134. It was *יהוה*. *Yehowah tells Isaiah to post a watchman.* *Isa 21:8* — *Then YHWH becomes the Watchman.* _“I WILL BE the watchman, I, Yehowah…”_ He gives the order. Then He takes the post. *Isa 21:9* — _“Babylon is fallen, is fallen!”_ Who says it? *The Watchman. Yehowah.* He doesn’t send a memo. He declares it from the wall. *Isa 21:10* — _“What I heard from *Yehowah* of hosts”_ — They left this one. He signs off with His Name. *Three times in 5 verses: יהוה opens it, יהוה speaks it, יהוה closes it.* They scrubbed 2 of 3. Peshitta + DSS put them back. ### *“I WILL BE” vs Babylon’s “I Will Be”* Babylon’s sin is always the same. *Isa 14:14* — _“I will ascend… *I will be like the Most High*.”_ אֶדַּמֶּה לְעֶלְיוֹן. Self-deification. Tower of Babel all over again. *YHWH’s answer in Isa 21:8:* _“*I WILL BE* the watchman.”_ *אהיה*. That’s Exodus 3:14 hurled at Babylon. Pharaoh heard _“I AM has sent me”_ before Egypt fell. Babylon hears _“I WILL BE the watchman”_ before she falls. *They said “we will be like God.”* *He said “I WILL BE — and I’m watching your walls.”* ### *Day and Night — He Was There When It Happened* _“I stand continually by day at My station, and *night by night I am set*.”_ Babylon fell at night. *Dan 5:30* _“That very night Belshazzar was slain.”_ Herodotus says Cyrus took the city during a feast. They were eating, drinking — *Isa 21:5* — while the river was diverted. *YHWH’s line: _“Night by night I am set.”*_ They had watchmen on the walls. *He was the Watchman watching the watchmen.* Their watch failed. His didn’t. The hand that wrote on the wall in Daniel 5? That was the Watchman from Isaiah 21:8. ### *What the Lion Hides* *With “lion” in the text:* 1. YHWH is removed from the action. A human or metaphor speaks. 2. The Name *אהיה* is gone — no connection to Ex 3:14. 3. The job *watchman* is gone — YHWH doesn’t lower Himself to stand guard. 4. The timing is generic — “a lion” could cry any time. *With “I WILL BE the watchman, I, Yehowah”:* 1. *YHWH takes responsibility* for Babylon’s fall. He’s not watching from heaven. He’s on the wall. 2. *The Name declares war* — _I AM_ vs Babylon’s _I will be like God_. 3. *The job reveals character* — He doesn’t just appoint watchmen. *He IS the Watchman.* Isa 62:6 _“I have set watchmen… but I, YHWH, watch.”_ 4. *The timing is prophetic* — _“Night by night I am set”_ — He was there the exact night it fell. ### *Two Isaiahs, Two Gods* *Western Isaiah*: Scribes 200 BC onward. They can’t let YHWH speak directly, stand guard, or use *אהיה* casually. So: lion, tower, Lord. YHWH is holy, distant, managed by priests. *Eastern Isaiah*: Peshitta, DSS, uncorrupted stream. YHWH says *I WILL BE the watchman*. He uses His Name. He stands guard Himself. YHWH is holy, present, and He fights His own battles. *Which one fits Daniel 5?* Which one fits Exodus? Which one fits a God who says _“I change not”_? *The lion was a cover-up so you wouldn’t see YHWH on Babylon’s wall.* *But He was there.* *He said I WILL BE.* *And Babylon fell.* That’s why they changed it. And that’s why we put it back. --- *Title it however you want*: _“The Watchman Who Took Babylon”_ or _“YHWH’s Night Shift”_ both work. *Cross-reference for your readers*: Daniel 5:5, Isaiah 62:6, Exodus 3:14, Revelation 18:2 _“Babylon is fallen, is fallen.”_ Same announcement. Same Watchman.
