Isa 28:10-12

## *The Hurricane Held Back — יהוה* _How “Line Upon Line” Turns Judgment Into Rest_ _Isaiah 28:2-12, 1 Corinthians 14:21_ *Isaiah 28:2 — 1QIsa-a Dead Sea Scroll* *הִנֵּה חָזָק וְאַמִּץ לַיהוה כְּזֶרֶם בָּרָד שַׂעַר קָטֶב* _“Behold, strong and mighty for YHWH, like a hailstorm, a tempest שַׂעַר of destruction...”_ *יהוה = Two Mighty Winds Revolving* *י Mighty + ה Wind + ו Turning + ה Wind = Hurricane* *שַׂעַר* _sa’ar_ = *whirlwind*. The Name IS the storm. *Job 38:1* _“YHWH answered Job out of the whirlwind סְעָרָה.”_ *Nahum 1:3* _“YHWH — His way is in the whirlwind סְעָרָה.”_ *v2 promises the full storm. Destruction. Judgment. The sea hurled inland.* *“I could do this and destroy you.”* *But He doesn’t.* --- ### *Isaiah 28:10 — The Mockery* *כִּי צַו לָצָו צַו לָצָו קַו לָקָו קַו לָקָו זְעֵיר שָׁם זְעֵיר שָׁם* _“For command upon command צַו, line upon line קַו, here a little, there a little.”_ *צַו* _tsav_ = *command, precept*. Always. *קַו* _qav_ = *line, measuring line*. _Isa 34:11 “line of chaos”_ *Psalm 19:4* _“Their line קַוָּם is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.”_ *Romans 10:18* Paul: _“their voice φθόγγος has gone out.”_ *So קַו = measuring line → word → voice.* *The drunk priests in 28:7-8 hear Isaiah and slur:* _“kaw kaw kaw, saw saw saw. All commands. All lines. Nagging.”_ *Peshitta:* _“Reply upon reply דתבתא, answer upon answer תיובא.”_ — _“He just keeps talking back.”_ --- ### *Isaiah 28:11-12 — The Answer* _“For with stammering lips and another tongue he will speak to this people, To whom he said, ‘This is the rest; give rest to the weary,’ and ‘This is the refreshing’; yet they would not hear.”_ *1 Corinthians 14:21* _“In the Law it is written: ‘By men of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me,’ says the Lord.”_ *Apostolic understanding:* *This is Pentecost. Not Assyria.* *Jews read v11-12:* _“Other tongues = Assyrians invading. Foreigners overrunning you. Judgment.”_ *Paul read v11-12:* _“Other tongues = Holy Ghost. Foreign languages infilling. Rest.”_ *Both are storms. But one destroys. One gives life.* --- ### *The Important Distinction — Your Illustration* *Isa 28:2 = The full Hurricane יהוה.* Two Mighty Winds revolving. The sea picked up. Devastation promised. _“I could destroy you.”_ *Isa 28:10 = Line upon line. קַו לָקָו.* *The hurricane measured out.* Voice upon voice. Word upon word. _“Here a little, there a little.”_ *The line קַו reveals the hurricane by measure.* *Not the full storm of v2. But the Mighty Rushing Wind in portions.* *Yah יה = Mighty Wind = Life.* _Gen 2:7 “breathed,” John 20:22 “He breathed on them”_ *Yehowah יהוה = Two Winds Revolving = The full Hurricane.* *Instead of pouring out the full יהוה hurricane of v2...* *He gives יה Yah — the Mighty Wind — measured: line upon line.* *Acts 2:2* _“Suddenly a sound like a violent rushing wind.”_ — *The Hurricane arrives, but measured.* *Acts 2:4* _“Other tongues”_ — *Isa 28:11 fulfilled.* *Isa 28:12* _“This is the rest, this is the refreshing.”_ — *Not destruction. Rest IN the storm.* *“I could do this and that and destroy you” v2.* *“But instead I will withhold My full power and judgment, and give you life instead” v11-12.* *A little here, a little there. 28:10,13.* *Not by invasion. By infilling.* *Not by overthrow. By outpouring.* *Not death by water. Life by Wind.* --- ### *The Name in the Storm* *Yah יה = The Son.* One Mighty Wind. The Hand that gives life. _Ps 68:4 “His Name is with Yah”_ *Yehowah יהוה = The Father.* Two Winds Revolving. The Hurricane held back. *John 3:8* _“The wind blows where it wishes... so is everyone born of the Spirit.”_ *The Hurricane doesn’t break the house. He fills it.* _Acts 2:2 “it filled the whole house”_ *Line upon line קַו לָקָו = The Wind measured out as words, as tongues, as rest.* *Ps 19:4 → Rom 10:18* _“Their line/voice has gone out into all the earth.”_ --- ### *The Bottom Line* *v2:* The Hurricane is coming. _“I can destroy you.”_ *v10:* You mocked the warning as _“kaw kaw kaw.”_ *v11-12:* _“Fine. I’ll speak kaw kaw — but in other tongues. And THIS is the rest.”_ *1 Cor 14:21:* _“That’s tongues. That’s Pentecost.”_ *He withheld the יהוה hurricane of judgment.* *He sent the יה Wind of life — measured, line upon line.* *True rest IN the whirlwind.
