Return or saved Isa 10:22-23

*Return or Saved? The Full Spectrum of שׁוּב - Isa 10:22-23 / Rom 9:27-28* This is more paramount. We must focus on full spectrum meaning of *shuwb*. Modern translators split what Aramaic keeps together. *1. שׁוּב (shuwb) - Full Spectrum* shuwb does not mean only “return” as in travel. In Hebrew and Aramaic it is one action with three faces: - *To turn back* - physical return to land - *To turn back to Master Yah* - to be converted - *To turn from sins* - to repent Those who turn from their sins, *live, chay, survive.* That is why Greek translator always translates chay/life as *saved, salvation.* To live after judgment is to be saved. To return from exile is to be saved. In Aramaic, shuwb is translated by two roots: *תוב (tuv) - to return, to return again* *פנא (pna / tifnon / nitphanun) - to turn face, to turn back* Targum Jonathan proves this. Isa 10:21: > “the remnant which have not sinned, and are turned from sin [tavin me-chat'ah], the remnant of the house of Jacob shall return to worship before the mighty God.”[yetuvun] Return = converted = turned from sin. One word. *2. כלה / כליון (kalah / killayon) and חרץ / נחרצה (charutz / necheratzah)* Modern Hebrew translators read kalah as only “destruction, consumption.” But unpointed text is *kalah - to finish, complete, bring to an end, accomplish.* Vowels added 1000 years later chose destruction. *kalah = to finish, complete, end* *killayon = finishing, completion, consumption* *charutz = cut, sharp, decisive, decided* *necheratzah = decisive cut, judgment cut* Peshitta preserves this: *g'murya u'fsikta - the end and the cut, cut short and concluded.* Not just destruction. A short, sharp, finishing work. *3. For a complete destruction, one that is decreed, the Lord GOD of hosts will execute in the midst of whole land. > Paraphrase Isa 10:21 - “the remnant which have not sinned, and are turned from sin [tavin (תבין) me-chat'ah (מחטאה)], the remnant shall return [yetuvun (יתובון)] to worship before the mighty God.” Targum keeps return, but adds *turned from sin.* Return IS converted. *Peshitta Old Testament Isa 10:22-23 (my translation):* > 22 For if your people Israel shall be as sand of sea, a remnant of them shall return [nitphanun (נתפנון)], he will cut short [kram (כרם)] and complete [u-fsak (ופסק)] and overflow [ve-garaph (וגרף)] with righteousness [be-zadikuta (בזדיקותא)] > 22 en (ואן) nehwa (נהוא) amech (עמך) Yisrael (איסריל) eich (איך) chala (חלא) de-yamma (דבימא) sharka (שרכא) nitphanun (נתפנון) menhon (מנהון) kram (כרם) u-fsak (ופסק) u-garaph (וגרף) be-zadikuta (בזדיקותא) Peshitta OT keeps *shoteph / garaph - flood, cleanse.* LXX drops it. *Peshitta New Testament Rom 9:27-28 (my translation - Peshitta primacy):* > 27 But Isaiah preaches against children of Israel, “For if number [menyana (מנינא)] of children of Israel shall be as sand of sea [chala (חלא) de-yamma (דבימא)], a remnant [sharkana (שרכנא)] of them shall live / survive [n'cha (נחא) = chay (חי) = saved]” > 28 The matter / Word [miltha (מלתא) = milah (מלה) = Logos] has been cut short [gram (גרם)] and cut off [u-fsak (ופסק)] and shall do it [ve-ne'badiah (ונעבדיה)] MarYah [MarYah (מריא)] upon earth [al ar'a (על ארעא)] > 27 Eshaia (אשעיא) din (דין) achrez (אכרז) al (על) bnei (בני) Yisrael (איסריל) da-en (דאן) nehwa (נהוא) menyana (מנינא) de-bnei (דבני) Yisrael (איסריל) eich (איך) chala (חלא) de-yamma (דבימא) sharkana (שרכנא) de-menhon (דמנהון) n'cha (נחא) > 28 miltha (מלתא) gram (גרם) u-fsak (ופסק) ve-ne'badiah (ונעבדיה) MarYah (מריא) al (על) ar'a (ארעא) Note: *n'cha = shall live, survive, preserved.* Literal preserved looks like chay. But in context of judgment, to be preserved alive IS to be saved. Conclusion* Greek *sothesetai - shall be saved* is not mistranslation of Hebrew *yashuv - shall return.* In full spectrum, in context of exile, to return is to live, to be saved, to be converted from sin. Paul did not need LXX to tell him that. Hebrew holds it. Targum holds it. Peshitta holds it. *Isaiah said return, Paul said saved - in exile, to return IS to be saved.* Perhaps beyth in yashuwb was mistaken for ayin, or visa versa. Making yashowb, Yeshua. Remember, vowels added 1000 years later, at least. Yeshua is masculine and is used only of a name in scripture, which could be why someone thought it was a Beyth. The short work Master Yah makes upon earth is remnant - He does not save sand, He saves remnant who turn, live, return. Shalom!
